The 5 Ways to Lower Blood Sugar are:
1. Eat healthy foods.
Eat: Oatmeal, Low-sugar, whole-grain cereals, wheat bread, corn tortillas, rice, pasta, beans, veggies at every meal, fresh fruits for a snack, 1% or nonfat yogurt or cheese, fish, chicken (without skin), meat (with fat cut off), nuts (almonds, cashews, peanuts or walnuts (no-salt or low-salt)
Drink: Water, 1% or nonfat milk, caffeine-free coffee and teas, or sugar-free sodas
2. Plan your meals.
Make healthy home-cooked meals: Buy fresh or frozen foods, check food labels on packages and cans. Choose nonfat or low-fat, low-sugar and low-salt foods. Limit fast-food meals. When you eat out, try to plan what you'll order before you go.
3. Weight loss.
Losing a few pounds helps lower your blood sugar: Eat 3 small meals and 2 snacks every day. Eat smaller servings.
4. Be active.
It's one of the best ways to lower your blood sugar. Make being active part of your day. It doesn't matter what you do. Everything counts! Walk with your children to school or to the park. Garden, dance, or swim. Sit less and move more.
5. Quit smoking and limit alcohol consumption.
Smoking and drinking too much alcohol makes your blood sugar go up.
Quit smoking. It's never too late to quit. Limit alcohol. Have no more than 1 drink a day.
