TOP 40 list: Live well in 2008, here is how you can start

Hello there my blogger friends-
I am so proud to bring this information to you! and thankful to be able to write this blog today.
It is the last one of the year.
I received a very INSPIRING Mail from my friend Judy.
I decide to share this list with you for 2008.
May you be blessed with the truth and the reality that your wishes are working their way into your life.
YOUR ATTENTION IS NEEDED TO REALLY UNDERSTAND THIS LIST.
NOW to the Top 40 list!
1.) Take a 10-30 minute walk every day. And while you walk, smile. It is the ultimate antidepressant.
2.) Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day. Buy a lock if you have to.
3.) Buy a Tivo (DVR), tape your late night shows and get more sleep.
4.) When you wake up in the morning complete the following statement, "My purpose is to________ today."

5) Live with the 3 E's -- Energy, Enthusiasm, and Empathy.

6.) Watch more movies, play more games and read more books than you did last year.
7.) Always pray and make time to exercise.

8.) Spend more time with people over the age of 70 and under the age of six.

9.) Dream more while you are awake.

10.) Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less foods that are manufactured in plants.

11.) Drink green tea and plenty of water. Eat blueberries, wild Alaskan salmon, broccoli, almonds & walnuts.
12.) Try to make at least three people smile each day.

13.) Clear your clutter from your house, your car, your desk and let new and flowing energy into your life.

14.) Don't waste your precious energy on gossip, energy vampires, issues of the past, negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead, invest your energy in the positive present moment.

15.) Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra class....... but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.
16.) Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a college kid with a maxed out charge card.

17.) Smile and laugh more. It will keep the energy vampires away.
18.) Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

19.) Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

20.) Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

21.) You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

22.) Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.

23.) Don't compare your life to others'. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

24.) Ladies - Go on and burn those 'special' scented candles, use the 600 thread count sheets, the good china and wear your fancy lingerie now. Stop waiting for a special occasion. Every day is special.

25.) No one is in charge of your happiness except you.

26.) Frame every so-called disaster with these words: "In five years, will this matter?"

27.) Forgive everyone for everything.

28.) What other people think of you is none of your business.

29.) Time heals almost everything. Give time, time!

30.) However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

31.) Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will. Stay in touch with them.

32.) Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.

33.) Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need. The universe provides, remember?!

34.) The best is yet to come.

35.) No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

36.) Do the right thing!

37.) Call your family often.

38.) Each night before you go to bed complete the following statements: "I am thankful for __________. Today I accomplished _________."

39.) Remember that you are too blessed to be stressed.

40.) Enjoy the ride.
Thank you everyone who is apart of my life, you all make it so interesting for me and I appreciate everything you all do for me.
Happy New Year!

Are you QUALIFIED to LOSE a pound this year?

It's STARTLING! but as we all know it is Christmas time again and another year has gone by.

I feel it necessary to express what I will be doing this year for the holidays to let you know that we are all human.

THIS YEAR I'm taking ACTION! My goal is to lose at least 1 pound over the holidays.

I usually start my drive down to good ol' Ocean township NJ, were I was raised.  I usually end up with the entire family at

my Aunt Janie's house.  She cooks the most AMAZING foods for the holidays.  As a matter of fact, my entire family cooks very well; and I'm not saying that to be nice.  This is where I received my culinary talents from.

THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME! There always seems to be an issue with gaining weight over the holidays, FOOD and LACK of EXERCISE has everything to do with it.  But before I give you THREE little steps to do to help you to potentially lose a pound instead of gaining ten; let me continue with my family story...

Everyone arrives around 2pm on the Eve of Christmas, this year we are doing it on Sunday the 23rd.  The house is always piping hot from the wood burning stove and there is a smell of cedar in the air with a hint of apple spice cider warming on the fire.  The lights always seem to be dim and the candles are burning with tons of commotion all around from the countless children.  Well this year there is only 5 little ones left because the other 7 grand children have grown up(me included).  Yes I am a grandchild, isn't everyone a grandchild.  My grandparents usually sit together but my grandmother always seems to not stay still.  She is a beautiful, action filled character strait out of a nursery rhyme.  Grandpa is completely different.  He is a health freak.  Yes, I am not the only one! hahaha.  He eats sprouted stuff and juiced veggies and stuff like that.  But if you sleep walk in the middle of the night , you might catch him eating sugar free ice-cream :-)  He knows its bad but it is a habit he can't kick.  There are so many character in my family which I called relatives and they all have a very special place in my heart for each one.   I have a very large extended family nearly 30 of us that meet up during the holidays, and I can't wait to see them.  But I also must admit I can't wait to have one of my aunts famous holiday dishes.  I know that if I did not have a plan to attack those unwanted pounds I would gain just like everyone else over the holidays.

SO, Here IT IS!  When you find yourself not able to go to the gym during this season and the food is piling up on you do these three things to keep your self fit and healthy during the season of eating.

WATER - try to have at least 32oz before eating, this will curb your appetite in a big way, do it again before you have dessert with 20 oz of water.  Do this only when you feel there will be far to great a temptation to overeat during holiday meals.  This should not be done during your normal meal plan of 6x/day.

SQUATS- very simple for three days starting on Christmas eve, do 50 squats in a row using only your bodyweight,  Do this 3-times: first thing in the morning before breakfast, before lunch, before dinner

PUSH-UPS - very simple, do 20 pushups in a row using only your bodyweight,  Do this 3-times: first thing in the morning after squats before breakfast, after squats  before lunch, after squats  before dinner.

By doing these two simple exercises and drinking plenty of water you will not only curb your appetite but you might even lose a pound after doing these for a few days.

Don't delay, start today, get a head start on your commitments for next year.

Do them NOW, you will love yourself for it!

So, can you answer the question NOW?: Are you QUALIFIED to LOSE a pound this year?

HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE,

Peace, Love, and Health,

Ted

Three Things Every Exercise Program Should Have

1. What you should know to design a safe and effective exercise program

A complete fitness program must include aerobic exercise, muscular strength and endurance conditioning, and flexibility exercise. Aerobic exercise does good things for your cardiovascular system and is an important part of weight management. Muscular conditioning can improve strength and posture, reduce the risk of lower back injury, and is also an important component of a weight management program. Flexibility exercise is needed to maintain joint range of motion and reduce the risk of injury and muscle soreness.

2. Aerobic exercise can be as simple as walking

Walking is a weight-bearing aerobic exercise. So are jogging, rope skipping and dance-exercise. Aerobic exercise is any activity that uses large muscle groups in a continuous, rhythmic fashion for sustained periods of time. There are also non-weight-bearing aerobic exercises, such as bicycling, stationary cycling, swimming and rowing.

Keep the pace comfortable. A very important aspect of your exercise program is the intensity. You should exercise at a comfortable pace. You can measure your exercise heart rate to check the intensity of your exercising, or you can take the 'talk test.'

To measure your heart rate, take your pulse as soon as you stop exercising. Count your heartbeat for 10 seconds, then multiply that by six to convert it to a one-minute heart rate. If you keep your exercise heart rate within a range of 55 percent to 80 percent of an estimated maximum heart rate (220 minus your age), you're doing well.

The talk test is easier to accomplish. Just exercise at a pace that allows you to carry on a conversation while you're exercising.

How often should you exercise?

Three to four days of aerobic activity is fine for general health maintenance. If you're trying to lose weight, aim for four or more days a week, being sure you take off at least one day a week.

How long should you exercise?

Work up to 20 or more minutes per session for general health maintenance. For weight loss, gradually work up to 45 minutes or longer at low to moderate intensities in a low- or no-impact activity.

3. Strength conditioning gives you a choice

Pick calisthenics, free weights or machines. Just be sure that your strength training includes exercises for every major muscle group, including the muscles of the arms, chest, back, stomach, hips and legs.

Start with a weight that's comfortable to handle and keep it up for eight repetitions. Gradually add more repetitions until you can complete 12 repetitions. For greater strength conditioning, add more weight and/or more repetitions, in sets of eight to 12, when the exercise becomes easy.

Stretch for flexibility

Proper stretching involves holding a mild stretch of 10 to 30 seconds while you breathe normally. Always warm up before you stretch. Like strength conditioning, flexibility exercises should include stretching for all the major muscle groups.

One last thing to remember . . . Always check with your doctor before beginning any exercise program, especially if you're over 40, or have cardiovascular risk factors, such as smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes or a family history of heart disease.

Is beef a superfood?

Hi there-

I have read a lot about superfoods lately.

This one might be the strangest to you but not to me.

I was reading one of my blogs subscriptions and I came across a fitness
related article on an article titled "The 10 NEW Superfoods for Women."

I heard about this article from my fellow blogger, Kevin Gianni

I love hearing about new superfoods, so I continued to read on.
Do you know what was first on the list?

"Beef."

FYI: Check Out Bill Maher's Rant
on Pharmaceutical Drugs...

==> http://www.renegadehealth.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You got that right!, good old, heart-stopping red meat.

Here is what Kevin had to say...

"As people are dying of heart disease by the hundreds of thousands, good
natured nutritionists, doctors and media outlets are still recommending red
meat 2-3 times a week.

Not spinach or broccoli or cherries... those superfoods aren't hip anymore.
I guess the list has gotten short enough to call up the average foods to the
big leagues and give them a swing for the fences.

This is an serious issue in our information age.

Navigating the media messages is a challenge we all have to face. We not
only hear messages from the TV and radio or read them in magazines or
online, but we also get them second hand and piecemeal from friends and
family members.

Sort of like the telephone game we used to play in kindergarten, where
everyone sits in a circle and whispers a message in the next person's ear
to--humorously--hear what the sentence has become once it's gone around the
room.

This is not how our health information should be distributed. It is
dangerous. But this type of transmission teaches us a very important
lesson.

Be wary of ANY health information you get.

Yes, even what I send you."

Go and find out for yourself.

Trick or Treat: Do You Know Candy is Killing Our Children!

I recently came in contact with a great article at Palmetto health regarding Halloween. I hope you find value as much as I did.  Do you know that candy is basically killing our children.  The obesity rate amongst children is increasing year over year with an astonishing pace.

You can read the whole article at http://www.palmettohealth.org/body.cfm?id=777

If you are concerned and wish to not only improve your health but others in your life, concider the benefits of fresh, healthy food delivered right to your door go to http://www.tilttotaltraining.com/mytiltmeals.html for more details and start changing the way you eat and change your life!

TRICK or TREAT

The appearance of ghosts, goblins, and witches can only mean one thing — Halloween is just around the corner! With childhood obesity on the rise in the US — the rate of childhood obesity has doubled in the past 20 years — what can be done with the buckets of candy to be collected?

Nutrition and Halloween aren’t two words that are normally seen together, but it is possible to promote healthy eating habits during the Halloween season.

Here are some tips:

  • Fill kids’ bellies with a nutritious meal before they head out for trick-or-treating. This way, they are less likely to fill up on empty calorie foods. Giving kids healthy foods first will reduce the chances of overindulgence.
  • Pass out non-food treats such as those found at children’s birthday parties: pencils, note pads, bubbles, noisemakers, etc. If you have leftovers, these treats can easily be stored for use the following year. Just be sure not to pass out choking hazards to young children (coins, rings, etc).
  • Granola bars, pretzels, cheese and cracker packs, sugar free gum, packets of instant hot chocolate, raisins, and nuts are some healthy alternatives. (Note that raisins and nuts are choking hazard for young children).
  • If you must pass out candy bars, get the smaller fun sized ones. And only give one or two — not a handful — to your trick-or-treaters. Some candy bars have less fat and calories than others- read the labels before you buy.
  • Ration the loot: Total restriction of candy isn’t healthy- anything that is restricted or denied tends to take on greater appeal. On the other hand, allowing your child to devour an entire bag of candy is a sure bet for a stomachache. Stick to small servings by only allowing your child one or two pieces of candy per sitting as a dessert after a healthy meal. A few days after Halloween, put the candy out of sight and out of mind You can ration out the treats later.
  • Buy your Halloween candy at the last minute to avoid tempting yourself and other family members. Buy less than you think you will need.
  • Beware of cavities: Halloween candy, as well as any sticky, sugary food, can easily promote tooth decay. Make sure children brush their teeth well after a candy snack and before going to bed.
Keeping in mind common sense, a little forethought and moderation, Halloween can remain good, scary, delicious fun for children and adults alike!

If you are concerned and wish to not only improve your health but others in your life, concider the benefits of fresh, healthy food delivered right to your door go to http://www.tilttotaltraining.com/mytiltmeals.html for more details and start changing the way you eat and change your life!

I have already lost 5 pounds!

ALL I DID WAS INCORPORATE THESE TWO SUPERFOODS INTO MY DIET

I'm not getting paid to tell you this website is great!

http://livesuperfoods.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=SFNT&Store_Code=lsf

There is some mystique about them, isn’t there? Imagine a food–or a group of foods–that alone can elevate moods, enrich your body with almost hundreds of minerals and taste great all at the same time?

The 7 foods I want to talk about do all this and more… and are not just the “ordinary” superfoods like the cherry, the avocado or extra virgin olive oil. These foods are from the corners of the world and they will pack a super-punch into your everyday diet.

GOTO: http://livesuperfoods.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=SFNT&Store_Code=lsf for more details.

Here are some foods I incorporated into my diet recently:

Organic Coconut Oil

Organic Goji Berries

I have already seen a dramatic difference in two weeks.

I have already lost 5 pounds!

Supermarket Tricks To Keep Your Clients From Being Thin

From: Ted Tilton

October 16th, 2007:

In this Issue:

Supermarket Tricks To Keep Your Clients From Being Thin

===========================================

I received these tips today from my friend and

colleague and felt they not only apply to everyone, but

those looking for weight loss. These are her Top 6

Shelf and Display Tactics that grocery stores use to

sell more product whether it is good for you or not.

Feel free to pass it along to your friends and family so they know

to avoid the common tricks the supermarkets are using

to get them to purchase unhealthy foods.

One of the best ways to save money at the supermarket

and eat healthier is to be aware of marketing

strategies used to encourage you to buy more and spend

more. The following are some of the most common

tactics:

1. The eye-level trick. A recent survey of shampoo

products in Northern California supermarkets showed

that in almost all of the 20 stores visited, the

higher-priced shampoos were at eye level. This is true

for other products throughout the supermarket.

Especially the ones that will bring the supermarket the

most profit. It doesn't matter if the product is

loaded with fat and sugar. If it is highly profitable

for them they will have it at eye level.

2. End-of-aisle displays. End-of-aisle displays don't

mean the products are on sale. Check carefully;

sometimes these products are near their freshness

expiration dates. They are also food items that are

good impulse buys again regardless of fat and calories.

When you look at the end-of-aisle displays you normally

see cookies, crackers, soda, etc. All things that will sabotage your weight loss, but lead you to temptation as you pass aisle after aisle of bad choices.

3. Kids' cereals. The most expensive and unhealthiest children's breakfast cereals are often placed at their eye level (not adults'). As you shop the aisle, you don't even realize what's causing your kids to want to put just about every cereal box imaginable in the cart. If you look at those cereals what do they consist of? Double chocolate crunch, super sugar smacks, and not one cereal for kids at their eye level is healthy for them.

4. Shelves change constantly. Marketers will often

rearrange shelves, making shoppers search for their

regular items and discover new products in the old,

familiar shelve spaces. Again this is a way to

introduce a higher profit food item for the grocery

store. They want you to find the products that will

make them the most money not make you the skinniest.

5. Specialty items grouped together. Items for special occasions (for example, chips, dips and sodas) are often grouped together to increase impulse sales. I know in my grocery store the chips are on one side of the aisle and the soft drinks are on the other side. The dips are also located towards the end of the chip side.

Talk about one aisle to avoid all together if your goal

is weight loss. Make it a habit to not even enter that

aisle because you are setting yourself up for disaster.

You will have a hard enough time avoiding these

products on the end-of-aisle displays.

Switch it up once and a while to burn more fat!

www.tilttotaltraining.com

mytiltmeals fresh to your door!
http://www.tilttotaltraining.com/mytiltmeals.html

Over the past two months I have been incorporating a new workout into my arsenal of workout routines.

This one is very quick and effective for burning fat. It is the Lewis Morris Park "PARCOURSE". developed by PARCOURSE LTD. back in the early 80's.

PARCOURSE ltd, decided that America needed help staying active and made it there mission to keep America running and fit on a PARCOURSE.

The PARCOURSE is literally 8 minutes from the center of Morristown, down RT24 doing toward Mendham, NJ.

This course has 18 stations that are a combination of stretching and strength activities combined with cardiovascular between each station. Each station is design for all levels of fitness by the use of PAR-scores.

Just like miniature golf. The PARCOURSE has a graded system for fitness level.

For example the Pushup station -14 has three levels

Beginner PAR: 5 Push-ups

Enthusiast PAR: 10 Push-ups

Champion PAR: 20 push ups.

This course is designed in a way that you can burn anywhere from 200-400 Calories in 30 minutes.

If you can do the course twice or even three times around you burn a max of 800-1000 calories in 60 minutes.

It is an excellent way to get that fat burning oven moving this fall. Stop by the PARCOURSE today maybe I'll see you there.

I do this course three times per week in addition to my normal workout routine.

I have seen about ten pounds drop off my body in 6 weeks. I have also seen other people lose as much as 40 pounds by using this course in as little as 8-10 weeks.

Do Something New! Do Something Different!

Get moving ..

Besides the great workout you get great scenery in the great outdoors.

Talk to you all soon!

I'll be there tomorrow at 9:30am 09/16/2007.

Healthy Regards,

Ted Tilton

DO MIRACLE PILLS WORK?

http://www.tilttotaltraining.com/mytiltmeals.html

10 Things to Say about MIRACLE Pills are:

# 1. Don’t believe everything you read.

# 2. Pay attention to the label. Ever wonder why all Diet drug/supplement labels say… “For Best Results use in conjunction with a balanced diet and exercise” ?  It is because Diet and Exercise is all you can do to change your body.  Miracle Pills won’t work. Period.

# 3. Have you ever seen this on the label? “Take with plenty of water!” … DUH!  This is another one, that just make sense doesn’t it?  If you get the appropriate amount of water daily you can see results like: improved hydration, younger looking skin, fat loss, etc…   Sounds like a miracle doesn’t it? NOT!  It is nature’s way of doing the right thing.

# 4.  How about this; ever seen this on a Diet pill label?  Each serving provides “100% of your daily recommended vitamins and minerals.  Taking on an empty stomach is advised first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.”  Are we all just so stupid that we believe everything we read without reading between the lines?  Taking any vitamin first thing in the morning is beneficial, so what am I trying to say… The Diet industry is a 100 Billion dollar industry for a reason, and it is not because everyone is losing weight on diet pills.  It is because we believe this BS!

# 5. Take up to three times daily with each meal … You know what I’m gonna say about this one right?  Most people don’t eat three times per day.  Getting someone to consciously eat three times per day and strictly holding to a multi meal plan has profound effects on your metabolism …. Of course you will lose weight!  How about trying to eat more than 3 times per day.  If you would like to learn more about how eating healthy 5-6 times per day without cooking.   Achieve that healthy body you have been wanting for a very long time.  Try mytiltmeals home delivery service. http://www.tilttotaltraining.com/mytiltmeals.html

# 6.  It is a MIRACLE Pill!    WHAT?  The Miracle is right in your mind, right now!  It is not in a pill.  The magical formula to losing fat and weight is all in your own mind and body.  The techniques of losing body fat are simple and can be measured without using supposed MIRACLE pills.  Are you able to believe what I just said without seeing it, on a bottle?  Are you being challenged to think outside the box?

I hope so.  Perform exactly what the labels say without taking the pills and see what happens.  Oh My God!  You’ll lose weight and fat!  Who would have thought. :-)

# 7.  The Miracle pill says Drink plenty of water.

# 8.  Eat 5-6 meals per day and take your vitamins

# 9. Be active and workout 5-6 times per week for at least 60 minutes

# 10. The most important part… Know in your mind, that it will work if you follow the previous three steps!!!

The reason why pill manufacturers make claims is because if you follow as recommended you will most likely lose some form of weight.  Now the important question to ask is, what type of weight are you losing? Lean Muscle, Fat, Water?

We’ll talk about this in a future blog…

Ted Tilton

Does your body really burn more calories after your workout?

Yes, but ... is it really significant? Well, this answer is based on how intense your workout was. So, the latter question is based on you. It has been studied by many fitness professionals and physicians that an everyday walk in the park, golf game or even tennis match, may only have an overall affect of 20-30 calories difference over the actual workout. However, if you kick-it up a notch you can effect the caloric burn significantly by 100-150 calories by using High Intensity Interval Training(HIIT). By now, you have started your new cardio program in the last blog. This new program that I designed week is in fact a HIIT program. Keep applying this technique and you will be able to burn even more calories after you workout is completed.

Warning:Do not think this is your ticket to a value meal! Take advantage of the extra burn by staying on a strict diet.

Until Next time.

Healthy Regards,

Ted Tilton

Top Myths in the gym today!

Just what do you believe when people talk about fitness in the gym.
There are so many misconceptions about fitness out there in the world; especially in your local
gym.  I would like to try and dispel one of these myths and give you the proper information.

Myth # 1:
Doing sit-ups and crunches on a machine will help reduce belly fat or abdominal fat.

Are you kidding me!
This is one of the most absurd fitness myth out there today.

Here is the real information
While good for toning your waistline and adding a great shape to your midsection and core; the only way to get rid of unwanted fat around your waist is to increase
your heart rate(HR).

This means that you can implement several techniques like circuit training, cardiovascular training, even resistance training.
The more you keep your heart rate fluctuating in and out of the aerobic zone the better exercise post oxygen consumption(EPOC)
effects you will realize.  This means that you will begin to burn lipids (FAT) even after you end your workout.
Simply doing sit-ups will not burn your FAT off.  You need to move your arse and get your HR up into the 70-85% zone of your Max HR(MHR).

MHR is calculated by using the following formula
220-(your age) = MHR.

Example: I am 37, so 220 - 37 = 183 MHR
70% of MHR = 0.70*183 = 128;  85% of MHR = 0.85*183 = 156

So this zone for me would be:
128-156

Calculate yours:
220- AGE = MHR
0.70*MHR = x?
0.85*MHR = y?
Your zone is (x thru y)

Try this for the next 4 weeks:
Whether you are on a treadmill, elliptical or bike you can follow the following method 3 times per week.

_____________________________________________________________________________
Warm-up:
5 minute warm-up easy pace, get you heart rate up to 70% by the end of the 5 minutes

Workout:
30 seconds accelerate your pace and watch your HR be sure you do not go over 75% MHR
2 min, bring your heart rate back to 70%
30 seconds accelerate your pace and watch your HR be sure you do not go over 80% MHR
2 min, bring your heart rate back to 70%
30 seconds accelerate your pace and watch your HR be sure you do not go over 85% MHR
2 min, bring your heart rate back to 70%
(repeat 2 times for a total of 15 minutes)

Warm-Down:
5 minutes, bring your HR down to (50%-55%)MHR, use the formula if needed

Total Time (25 minutes)
____________________________________________________________________________

For week two
Increase the repeat to three times, This will bring your workout to 32.5 minutes

For week three
Repeat week two. Total 32.5 minutes

For week four
Increase the repeat to four times, This will bring your workout to 40 minutes
____________________________________________________________________________

By following this routine along with a balanced meal plan you will begin to see significant changes in as little as four weeks

Healthy Regards,
Ted Tilton
